Dean Mascarenhas and Gagan Karumbaiah came back from the WRC stage to an Indian rally that demanded a different kind of concentration. They answered with the overall victory at Rally of Coimbatore, beating Karna Kadur and Musa Sherif by 23.482 seconds and giving their international programme a strong national continuation.
Rally Chile had placed the crew inside a full WRC3 field with longer stages, a large international service environment and a Ford Fiesta Rally3. Coimbatore brought them back to a Volkswagen Polo, a compact Indian route and a field that knew every metre would matter. The machinery changed. The useful habits remained.

International mileage appears in the small decisions
A WRC weekend teaches a crew to protect the whole event. The lesson lives in the recce, the pace notes, the service report and the moment when a driver decides to leave a little margin. Those choices are easy to miss from the outside. They appear in the final time when the car reaches the last control with its advantage intact.
Dean and Gagan’s eight recorded stage times carried that shape. The Polo was quick at the beginning, composed through the middle and controlled on the final loop. Their 01:36:19.777 total came from keeping speed available for the whole rally, not from asking for one spectacular stage and hoping the rest would follow.
A national field made the win meaningful
Karna and Musa stayed close in the Arka Motorsports Polo. Jason Saldanha and Srinivas Murthy P V took the new Peugeot 208 to third overall. Naveen Puligilla and Santhosh Thomas brought the Ford Fiesta home fourth. Aditya Thakur and Virender Kashyap finished fifth in a naturally aspirated 1.6 Polo against turbocharged cars.

Anushriya Gulati and Karan Aukta placed the Citroen C3 eighth overall and first in INRC 3T on its debut. Ritesh Guttedar, Pragathi Gowda, Tarushi Vikram, Harkrishan Wadia and the rest of the classified field gave the victory a proper competitive setting. Dean and Gagan returned to a championship that had moved forward while they were abroad.
The crews behind the result still shaped the weekend
Phoebe Dale and Shahid Salman finished after working through gearbox trouble. Daraius Shroff and Arjun Dheerendra reached the finish after their own gearbox failure. Jeet Jhabakh and A G Somayya restarted after the i20 driveshaft issue. Fabid Ahmer’s rally ended on SS8 after a mechanical failure, and Arvind Dheerendra’s roll changed the INRC 3 fight.
A win that opens the next chapter
The Coimbatore result does not close Dean and Gagan’s WRC story. It gives that story a stronger Indian chapter. The crew now has a national victory, current international mileage and a clear reference for the Polo, the notes and the service operation on a fast Coimbatore route.
The value of the win will be measured again at the next INRC round, on a different road with different pressure. Rally crews grow through the details they carry forward. Dean and Gagan leave Coimbatore with a notebook full of useful ones.
